RandyL Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Hi Grey; Make sure you have all your Windows updates and remove all media players. Except WMP of course. There might be a conflict. GreyCell1988 Posted August 18, 2008 Author Posted August 18, 2008 What other media players are you using? -- Goku None now due to uninstalling them all lol, but i was using Winamp ALC player and Itunes. Quote
Goku Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 OK, let me understand this. Whatever media player you use to play an audio file, you get an error message for the first time. However, when you try to open it the second time, the file plays fine. Is this summary right? -- Goku Quote
Dalo Harkin Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 If you open task manager - when you click the first time see if it is in the task manager - I doubt it will be - and when you click the second time see if it is - I used to have the opposite problem where it stayed open (had to close it through task manager) and had to do a reinstall of WMP Quote Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)Asus P5K premium black pearl4GB OCZ Reaper 8500260GTX Join Free PC Help - Register here Donations are welcome - here PC Build We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. After all, no one knows everything and you may have the answer that someone needs.

RandyL Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Hi grey; May I ask how you managed to uninstall WMP11 in Vista? WMP11 is the only version that will work in Vista and is integrated with Vista. I know of no way to uninstall it in Vista. If you have somehow managed to uninstall WMP11 you may need to perform a repair or reinstall of Vista to repair WMP11. I understand that other players don't work right too but this may be a root issue. Or do you mean you removed the files that played in the different players but did not actually remove the other players? If so go to the Control Panel>Programs and Features and uninstall any other media players you may have. Reboot. Quote We are all members helping other members. GreyCell1988 Posted August 18, 2008 Author Posted August 18, 2008 Nah I used a disc my m8 gave me that allows you to remove WMP without breaking Vista, then i reainstalled it threw Windows repair, seemed to do it perfectly, altho the problem persisted, so i uninstalled all my codec packs, it wasnt untill i uninstaled AC3 that it started working properly again. Turns out it was AC3Codec pack causing this, no idea why...but i dl'ed a new version and have installed htat, and it seems to be working fine...Thanks for all you help guys ur the best ;)! Quote
