problem when I press Win+E

When I press Win+E to start Windows Explorer, I get a dialog box with this

message:

"Windows cannot find '(null)'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and

then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click

Search."

Explorer starts up anyway, despite this error.

If I start Explorer by typing "explorer" in the Run dialog, I don't get that

error message.

The other Winkey combinations seem to be working properly. Only Win+E seems

to be affected. There seems to be something screwy in the way that Win+E is

calling Explorer.

Somebody suggested running SFC, but that didn't fix this problem.

Any ideas?

You could try doing a repair installation of Windows XP. That replaces all

iffy system files with new ones, and it shouldn't delete any of your

documents. However I would suggest you back up all important data before

following this:

Make sure your BIOS is set up to boot from the CD-ROM drive before the hard

drive. To do this when your computer starts look for a message saying

something like 'Press DEL to enter BIOS'. Push whatever key it says, and look

around for Boot Options. Set the first Boot Device to CD-ROM, and the second

to Hard Drive. You may wish to revert them afterwards so that you have a

quicker boot time.

Before you quit the BIOS, open your CD-ROM drive and put the Windows XP disc

in. Then, restart your computer and wait until XP installation boots up.

Press 'r' to repair and the instructions ought to be self explanatory.

Hope this helps.
