Guest Andrew Story Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 Hello all, I have a file on a Win2k server that looks to have a very long file name and be buried under a lagre amount of subfolder. When I try to delete it nothing happens, when I try to view it's properties I get the message: "the properties for this item are not available" So, I'm unable to move/rename/delete the file, any ideas?
Guest Coraleigh Miller Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 Re: error when delting file from win2k server Hi Andrew, Map a drive to the parent folder and then browse to the file via the map drive and try to delete it. Guest Andrew Story Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 Re: error when delting file from win2k server Thankyou Coraleigh that worked a treat. I've never came across that before, would you happen to know what the cause was? Guest Coraleigh Miller Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 Re: error when delting file from win2k server Your welcome. :-) The NTFS filesystem only supports filenames (includes the full path) up to 255 characters in length. That is why its important to use concise folder and file names.
