Guest Kayman Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 Re: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/898628/ Quote To determine which version of Windows Installer is currently installed on the computer, follow these steps: 1. In Windows Explorer, locate the following file: Msi.dll This file is located in the Windows\System 32 folder. 2. Right-click Msi.dll, and then click Properties. 3. Click the Version tab. Note the file version number. .. If the version number is 3.1.4000.1823, the computer has Windows Installer 3.1 (v1) installed. .. If the version number is 3.1.4000.2435, the computer has Windows Installer 3.1 (v2) installed. Unquote. Okay, I right-clicked Msi.dll, clicked Properties: General- Type of file: Application Extension Location: C:\WINDOWS\system32 Version- File Version: 3.1.4000.4039 Description: Windows Installer. The file version is different to any of the version shown in item #3. However I found this also: C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache 3.1.4000.4039 C:\WINDOWS\$MSI31Uninstall_KB893803v2$ 3.0.3790.2180 C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB927891$ 3.1.4000.2435 As you can see file version 3.1.4000.3435 refers to $NtUninstallKB927891$ and not to Windows Installer. I am a bit confused as to which version (v1 or v2) is currently installed to my pc. FYI In Add or Remove Programs- Currently installed programs and updates: Windows Installer 3.1 (KB893803) but "Size" is not displayed. Grateful for clarification and advice.
