maynardvdm Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Hi Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help. Is it just certain DVD's or all DVD's? When you open My Computer does it show the DVD drive there? Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. PASHBURNERCO Posted August 24, 2008 Author Posted August 24, 2008 this happens with all dvd and pc discs. in my computer it shows the drive being there but with nothing in it even when a disc is there Quote
Dalo Harkin Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 Have you checked none of the connections in the PC have come loose, have you checked the manufacturers website for a firmware update - if there is a problem after these steps then the drive may be dying. Seth Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 Purchase a cdrom lens cleaner. If that doesn't help, then there is a registry fix that I'll post...and if that doesn't work, then the drive should be replaced. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Guest Wolfeymole Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 Try what's listed below and if that doesn't work, then the drive should be replaced. 1. Go to Start>Run, type in regedit and click ok. 2. Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} 3. On the Edit menu, click Delete , and then click OK . 4. Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} 5. On the Edit menu, click Delete , and then click OK . 6. Quit Registry Editor. NOTE : After you remove the Upperfilters value and the Lowerfilters value, if you notice lost functionality in a particular program, such as CD recording software, you may need to reinstall that software. If the problem recurs, consult with the software vendor for assistance. 7. : After you exit the registry editor, restart the computer. Quote
PASHBURNERCO Posted August 31, 2008 Author Posted August 31, 2008 still not working thanks for everyones effort it must be the drive itself Quote

Dalo Harkin Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 (edited) As a last resort you could flash the drives firmware - to expand on this you need to go to the maker of the drives site and there will be a section called firmware, you then run the exe within windows and it wipes the firmware on the drive and then it creates a newer one that basicaklly makes the drive able to detect newer disks. (as it overwrites the previous firmware it can help fix many problems. **If this is not performed properly and the pc is turned off half way through etc it can render the drive inoperable** This is an example of the Pioneer firmware page Software Downloads - Pioneer UK Edited September 1, 2008 by Dalo Harkin Quote Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)Asus P5K premium black pearl4GB OCZ Reaper 8500260GTX Join Free PC Help - Register here Donations are welcome - here PC Build We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. After all, no one knows everything and you may have the answer that someone needs.
