IAS Log Missing

My IAS server is set to create its log files in C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles

(the default location) and they are simply not there. Accounting,

authentication, and status are checked to be logged, service has been

started, etc. I am inplementing 802.1x security on my new Trapeze wireless

network...needless to say, the lack of logs makes troubleshooting a problem.

:)

Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: IAS Log Missing

Hi Shawnpn,

The IAS logging is pretty simple, if you have a valid log location set and

checkboxes checked, as you said you do, that is it. If your clients are not

able to succesfully use IAS i would bet that its not even being contacted

and so is unaware that anything should be logged. I would look closer at

the path from the clients to the IAS server to make sure that it is

continuous.

Do your clients get any error message when they try and conect?

Try checking this...

"Users with 802.1x authenticated switch client connections with EAP or PEAP

are not prompted to input credentials and cannot log on.

Cause: The icon for the network connection must be displayed in the

notification area on the client.

Solution: Configure the network connection properties on the client so that

the network connection icon is displayed in the notification area when

connected.

See also: Show a network connection icon in the notification area

Cause: The switch is not configured to initiate authentication with an

EAP-Request-Identity packet when it detects that a client is active on the

port.

Solution: Configure the switch to initiate authentication."

Re: IAS Log Missing

Coraleigh,

Thank you for your response.

My problem appears to be a combination of two items; Client requests not

making it to IAS and a misunderstanding in regards to the logging. I thought

that when checking "Accounting requests (for example, accounting start or

stop)" it would log a message when IAS started or stopped. I though it would

do this in addition to logging of an event in the event log (which was

logged).

Thanks again,

Shawn
