Guest Roy Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 Hi, one of our clients is experiencing this problem, i did get the hotfix to resolve this problem however when trying to install it the installer says that the sp level is higher and it stops Can I assume that the latest winsrv.dll also has the fix for this problem or should i install this dll manually? the server is running win2k3 std sp2 tia Roy
Guest Vera Noest [MVP] Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 Re: slow logoff with redirected printers Since you don't mention which hotfix you received, it's impossible to say for sure. But my guess is that you received the following hotfix: 828326 - It takes longer than you expect to log off from a Terminal Services session in Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=828326 The version and date of the winsrv.dll are 5.2.3790.146, 31-Mar-2004 That's much older than the same dll in SP2. You can compare the versions on your own system. So you should *not* install the file manually! _________________________________________________________ Vera Noest MCSE, CCEA, Microsoft MVP - Terminal Server TS troubleshooting: http://ts.veranoest.net *----------- Please reply in newsgroup -------------* =?Utf-8?B?Um95?= <Roy@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote on 24 aug 2007: > Hi, > > one of our clients is experiencing this problem, > i did get the hotfix to resolve this problem > however when trying to install it the installer says that the sp > level is higher > and it stops > Can I assume that the latest winsrv.dll also has the fix for > this problem or should i install this dll manually? > > the server is running win2k3 std sp2 > > tia > > Roy
Guest Roy Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 Re: slow logoff with redirected printers thank you for your reply that was the hotfix i received from MS how can i figure out what is causing this now then? Guest Vera Noest [MVP] Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 Re: slow logoff with redirected printers Now that you know that the problem *might* be totally unrelated to redirected printers, you'll have to post the details of your problem if you want more than educated guesses. * how long does it take to logoff - seconds, minutes, hours? * at which stage of the logoff process does this occur? * any messages on screen, like "Windows is saving your profile"? * does this happen to all users? * does this happen always, or at random, or more frequently when the server hasn't been rebooted for some time, or....? * does this happen with local TS profiles, or roaming TS profiles, or in both cases? * while this happens, how does the TS behave to other existing users? Can they continue working, or does the server "hang" for them? * any errors or warning in the EventLog when this occurs? * have you checked in Task manager on the server which processes are running in the user session when this happens? _________________________________________________________ Vera Noest MCSE, CCEA, Microsoft MVP - Terminal Server TS troubleshooting: http://ts.veranoest.net ___ please respond in newsgroup, NOT by private email ___ =?Utf-8?B?Um95?= <Roy@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote on 24 aug 2007 in microsoft.public.windows.terminal_services: > thank you for your reply > > that was the hotfix i received from MS > > how can i figure out what is causing this now then? > > > "Vera Noest [MVP]" wrote: > >> Since you don't mention which hotfix you received, it's >> impossible to say for sure. >> But my guess is that you received the following hotfix: >> >> 828326 - It takes longer than you expect to log off from a >> Terminal Services session in Windows 2000 or Windows Server >> 2003 >> http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=828326 >> >> The version and date of the winsrv.dll are >> 5.2.3790.146, 31-Mar-2004 >> >> That's much older than the same dll in SP2. Guest Helge Klein Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 Re: slow logoff with redirected printers Just for completeness' sake: yes, SP2 should include that update. Checking... Interestingly neither SP1 nor SP2 for W2k3 include that hotfix. See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914962 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/824721 That is rather unusual. It is normal, though, that a hotfix will not replace newer files with older versions of the same files. And I must agree with Vera: do not try to do that manually. Guest Vera Noest [MVP] Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 Re: slow logoff with redirected printers Hi Helge, Yes, I noticed that too. Article 914962 - List of updates in Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=914962 has a confusing history. A couple of months ago, a separate article with the same title was published, and it's content *differed* slightly from the content in 914962. That second article has been removed again, but 914962 still has omissions. I've reported it and have asked for article 828326 to be added to the list in 914962. _________________________________________________________ Vera Noest MCSE, CCEA, Microsoft MVP - Terminal Server TS troubleshooting: http://ts.veranoest.net ___ please respond in newsgroup, NOT by private email ___ Helge Klein <Helge.Klein@googlemail.com> wrote on 24 aug 2007 in microsoft.public.windows.terminal_services: > Just for completeness' sake: yes, SP2 should include that > update. > > Checking... > > Interestingly neither SP1 nor SP2 for W2k3 include that hotfix. > See: > > http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914962 > http://support.microsoft.com/kb/824721 > > That is rather unusual.
