Synch My Documents for Notebook Users

Recommended Posts

Posted

I am trying to design/conceptualize a more efficient storage and

productivity upgrade with two notebook users in our center.

Currently I have about thirty users all on desktops, but I also have

two notebook users that often travel and need files out of their my

documents folder while at conferences/meetings which may not have

Internet access for them to log into the server.

What I would like to do is when they do log in, their notebooks synch

their local my documents to the terminal server's my documents.

What I believe I need to do is create a shared folder where their My

Documents are redirected. Then make that folder available for off-

line access. Then synch it to the notebooks my documents.

What I've done so far is the following:

Created a separate drive (Limited disk space on current drive)

I attempted to add that drive to their profile in their users accounts

properties in both their profile and terminal server profile. That

created a Windows\system folder, but nothing else, their documents are

still located where they were before.

If any can give me some assistance or correction on how I'm

approaching this, I'd be grateful.

I'd also like to once again thank the people that helped me with my

printing problem, I went ahead and created VPN's and haven't had any

trouble yet.

RE: Synch My Documents for Notebook Users

How is your current environment configured?

Laptop users also log in to TS, or do they just use the locally installed

applications?

If your laptop users indeed access TS and need their documents also in the

TS environment, best method is to use Offline Folders for the My Documents

folder. If you only configure another home folder or ts profile path in AD,

My Documents will not be moved automatically. This is configured in the GPO

under the User Shell Folders. If you want to modify the location of the My

Documents folder, take a look at your GPO.

Hope this points you a bit in the good direction.
