Dynamic Disk, Software mirroring, extend c:\ - 2003 server

-2003 Standard Edition SP1

-Två scsi diskar. (No RAID card)

-Software mirrored

-Dynamic disk

- 3 Volumes c:\ f:\ g:\

- 7GB free disk

 

Problem - c:\ is 96% full and just realised i can't add som of the free disk

to c:\ because of the mirroring. I had counted on the dynamic disk extend

feature over the past years knowing that this day would come. But now I can't

extend c:\ as I had wanted.

 

Question - can I remove the mirroring and then extend c:\, then replace the

mirroring? (After full backup to tape of course)

You may, but before, you may just clean up the drive:

-search for memory dump c:\windows\memory.dmp

-clean old installed hotfix

-move the pagefile out of C:\ (you may keep one of 200M for memory dump)

-search for disk space eater with this true freeware:

http://windirstat.info/

 

It would be cleaner to remove all partition and make the new partition

schema, but that also require more work to be done.

Thanks Mathieu,

I had moved most hotfix file to g:\ to weeks ago, but c:\ was still filing

up. Realise Winupdate was set at "download but don't install" so that was the

problem. Move the rest och the hotfix files and download file and sp1

uninstall files and free up 1.2GB.

I will move swap file to.

 

Problem solved with minimum effort.
