Guest krap928 Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 Hi, I just built myself a new computer. Now my problem is, When i first installed windows xp home edition, this is what happened. After i created a partition, then had it formatted and after formatting it starts to copy the files. After that is gives me an error saying that one of the files can not be copied because the windows xp cd is not a valid cd image. I press a button to retry and it works. I installed windows through this process 5 times with the same results on different files that couldnt be copied. After I do install windows, I update to service pack 2 with all the drivers installed that comes with the motherboards CD. The problem is, when i try to install CA's firewall, it wont install because some file is corrupt. So i download it from their website and it says its corrupt. I tried installing world of warcraft with the CD and it wont install because some file is corrupt. So i downloaded the game and it still says some file is corrupt. A lot of the software such as quick time and i tunes cant be installed. I tried scandisk and defragmenting with no help. I also tried installing windows installer. At first it did install. After reboot when i tried to install it again, it said the file was corrupt. I did a virus scan and nothing. What might be the problem? please help -- krap928

Hardware in this case can include the CD drive, hard disks, cabling, and any memory component, not just the sticks themselves. You need to start with a clean, error-free installation. I know of many people who have replaced their hard drives in similiar situations to no avail. It almost points to a RAM problem assuming the CD is in good shape. -- http://www.bootdisk.com/
Guest krap928 Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 Re: windows xp help I will try to unplug the hardware and plug it back in and try to reinstall windows again. Thanks for the advice and I will update you on it. -- krap928
Guest erik.kranzusch@gmail.com Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 Re: windows xp help I've seen this issue occur from the following: Bad RAM Bad CD-Rom Drive / Ribbon cable Bad power supply Incorrect CPU timing. (this can cause a lot of install related problems with blizzard games, D2, WoW, WC3, etc) You may also want to verify the CD by installing it with another machine. ( I doubt it's really the CD though, it's most likely a hardware problem) Good luck!
Guest krap928 Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 Re: windows xp help ok thanks for the help guys. I did try a different hard drive but i had the same issue. I have 2 1gb dual rams plugged into the mb. So i took 1 of them out and left one of it still on the mb and formatted and reinstalled windows. It did not work so i took the ram and plugged it into a different ram slot. I repeated the steps 3 more times cuz i have 4 slots. It did not help and the problem seemed worse because I can only format the hard drive and not install windows. So i took the other ram that was previously taken out and plugged it in and now my computer works. I guess one or the ram was defective. I should replace asap. Thanks for the help guys. -- krap928
