Guest Daniel Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 Hi I have XP Pro, I recently did a format and install of the OS, I have installed all updates and have Defender and the firewall running. Today I went to create a restore point and got this message "System Restore was unable to create a restore point. Please restart your computer and run System Restore again" When I did reboot and tried again I got the same message. I did look in the knowledge base and found a fix but only for Windows ME. Any idea how to fix this, I do not have any Highpoint Drivers installed. thanks Daniel
Guest Bert Kinney Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 Re: System Restore Problem Hi Daniel, Log onto another administrator account and try to create a restore point. The hidden administrator account can also be used. At the welcome screen do a Ctrl+alt+del twice. This will bring up the "Log On to Windows" box. Type in administrator as the User Name, leave the Password blank and press enter. Guest Daniel Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 Re: System Restore Problem Thanks Bert, I only have one account on this PC unless I start in safe mode. When I hit Ctrl-Alt-Del twice at the welcomescreen I only get task manager? Is there another way to get into the admin account? thanks Daniel "Bert Kinney" <bert@NSmvps.org> wrote in message news:uJNOxXs5HHA.5360@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... > Hi Daniel, > > Log onto another administrator account and try to create a restore point. > > The hidden administrator account can also be used. > > At the welcome screen do a Ctrl+alt+del twice. > This will bring up the "Log On to Windows" box. > Type in administrator as the User Name, leave the Password blank and > press enter. > > Regards, > Bert Kinney MS-MVP Shell/User > http://bertk.mvps.org > Member: http://dts-l.org > > > Daniel wrote: >> Hi >> >> I have XP Pro, I recently did a format and install of the OS, I have >> installed all updates and have Defender and the firewall running. >> >> Today I went to create a restore point and got this message >> "System Restore was unable to create a restore point. Guest Bert Kinney Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 Re: System Restore Problem Yes, log into Safe Mode. The built-in administrator account should show up there. Guest Daniel Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 Re: System Restore Problem Bert when I log in on Safe Mode, there is no option to create a restore point, only an option to Restore but no restore points to restore to. thanks Daniel "Bert Kinney" <bert@NSmvps.org> wrote in message news:%231WWWX$5HHA.1212@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... > Yes, log into Safe Mode.
