Guest Chris Harris Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 I am using a Dell Dimension with Windows XP SP2. I installed Windows Installer Cleanup on 8/16/07 because I suddenly had a problem with Acrobat 5.0 that I use. I had previously had the same problem (it would not display ..pdf files in the web browser) and had uninstalled and reinstalled Acrobat. After this, I began haviing all sorts of problems. The big problem right now: when I click on setup.exe in a given program, for example Acrobat and HP Printer software, nothing happens. It does not install. I get an hourglass on the Adobe software, and it goes away. The HP software flashes for a moment, and then goes away. Nothing happens. I downloaded the latest windows installer file today, and the problem was not resolved. Any ideas?
Guest Andrew E. Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 RE: Windows Installer Failure That utility was issued in 2003,its never been updated, its a dead utility. As far as installer service goes,go to run, type:services.msc In msc, scroll to windows installer, double click, set the service to "auto start" from the manual start its now in,start the service, close out msc.... Guest Chris Harris Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 RE: Windows Installer Failure Andrew E: I followed your directions as best I could, although I don't know some of your abbreviations. I did not find a choice that said "auto start" but did find "automatic." I chose automatic and clicked the start button below. It shows as being started. I put in my Acrobat disk and double clicked setup.exe and again, experienced the hourglass for a few seconds and then nothing. I am open for mor suggestions.
