Guest Robert Church Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 A friend of mine has used the FAST wizard to attempt to transfer files from an old to a new hard drive in his laptop. He failed to make any other backups of his important files and thought he could rely on the Windows XP FAST program. Now he has reformatted his hard drive, reinstalled Win XP service pack 2 but cannot get FAST to recover any of his files. He tell me he gets "Access Denied" every time he points the software to the folder which is USMT2.UNC with a file called IMG00001.DAT plus a file called "status" in it He has tried the Fastconv Extraction Tool without any success - has anyone any ideas - BTW he has 2 separate FAST files made on different dates and neither of them work ????

Guest Patti MacLeod Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 RE: File and settings transfer files - access denied Hi Robert, Perhaps it's an issue with permissions for the USMT2.UNC folder. Follow the instructions in this MSKB article to take ownership of the USMT2.UNC folder: How to take ownership of a file or folder in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=308421 Regards, -- Patti MacLeod Microsoft MVP - Windows Shell/User "Robert Church" wrote: > A friend of mine has used the FAST wizard to attempt to transfer files from > an old to a new hard drive in his laptop.
