I had Norton installed on my PC about 2 years ago. Since then i have got AVAST installed on my PC because i didn't want to pay all that money for a new Norton package. But i still have the old Norton on my PC and it keeps of course reminding me to update it.

 

Because the Norton i have is about 2 yeard old now, is there any point in me keeping it on my PC or should i just uninstall it and stick with just AVAST?

I dont think Avast has a Firewall.

 

Here are some firewalls which are free for personal use and most used:

Kerio

Agnitum

I have AVAST and it's really good. Do i need a firewall as well? Or does AVAST work ok without one? I have tried downloading firewalls Comodo and Kerio but they are both quite irritating in that they are constanly popping up question boxes and i have no idea what they mean?

 

Should i just stick with my AVAST?

you can just use the windows one if you wish - but you must run one!

The Windows Firewall isn't very good and only blocks traffic one way. It is better to have a third party firewall.

In vista you can set windows firewall to block outgoing traffic too, is there any reason to do this though?

not really no - more for diagnostic purposes

Some malware, like password stealers and backdoor infections will send information back to the creator. That is why you need a firewall for both ways ;)
