Guest Paradigm Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 OE6 seems permanently hung up (frozen) refusing to connect up with the e-mail server, I have rebooted numerous times with no success. WinXP has been installed for months with IE7 and OE6 with no problems until now. HELP!
Guest PA Bear Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 Re: OE6 freezes up and will not connect to email server General OE Caveats: - Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local folders created for this purpose. - Empty Deleted Items folder daily. - Disable Background Compacting [not available in SP2] and frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm - WinXP SP2 only: Do not shut down your machine while Windows is automatically compacting your message store. - Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection. -- OE-specific newsgroup: http://news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.outlookexpress.general ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) Paradigm wrote: > OE6 seems permanently hung up (frozen) refusing to connect up with the > e-mail server, I have rebooted numerous times with no success. If it opens, make sure that you don't have ANY messages in the default folders such as Inbox, Sent Items, Deleted Items or Drafts. Move any messages into user created folders that are created under Local Folders. Then click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree and then File/Folder/Compact All Folders and don't touch your mouse or keyboard until it's done. -- Alias To email me, remove shoes
