I installed ZoneAlarm (trial) then had to uninstall it. Restoring the

backkup failed. XP Sys Restore failed to restore to FOUR different points!

I received the msg "Cannot access True Vector, disable TV and try again.

I've never heard of TV and Search hasn't either. I've tried downloading

ZoneAlarm again with the same results.

Can soneone help, PLEASE!!!!

Thanks,

Rommel

Run regedit, find vsmon.exe and remove it from the registry. That's the

name of the TrueVector utility that's needed for ZA. Apparently the

uninstall missed some references to that program.

Ditch ZA. It has been updating to new versions for years and still has

the same BS True Vector things going on and messes stuff up when

people update it.

No it doesn't. It's a great program, you just have to learn how to use

it.

I've been using the trial version for several days and like it a lot but, am

very perplexed about present situation.

Found 4 entries in registry of vsmon.exe; removed them but that didn't help.

Other ideas?

Re: True Vector (TV)

Go to the zA folder and delete it.

also there are a list of files that ZA installs in the system 32 folder that

also need to be deleted, the uninstall program doesn't remove these files.

one that I did, is in stll a VERY old version like 2 I don't remember the

exact version but before version 4. then you can try the upgrade to the

newest version.

You will need to go to the ZA site and get a list of all the files that ZA

installs in the system 32 folder

Have a look in Services (Start | Run, type in "services.msc" without the

quotes, <OK>) for TrueVector Internet Monitor. When you have ZA

installed it is set to Automatic. If it's running, stop it and disable

it, then try your System Restore again.

I'm wondering if perhaps you didn't shut down ZA before you uninstalled

it? That might explain why your uninstall seems not to have got rid of

everything. ZA does protect itself, by design, and if you try to shut it

down will pop up an alert in your system tray to check that it really is

what you intend and not some nasty trying to infect your system :-)

Thanks to everyone. Nightowl, I will keep that in mind for future use.

I was, after many many tries, able to reinstall the trial version. I broke

down and selected the two choices to receive their email sales promotions!!!
