I just wanted everyone out there to know that I came home to a frantic husband. Earlier in the week I told him he would probably see Service Pack 3 from Microsoft wanting to update on his computer and that he should click "ok" whenever it prompts him to. He received some sort of pop up that he thought was this update and installed it, only to find it was the aforementioned Antivirus XP 2008 that made our Avast antivirus go ballistic and Spybot throw out several warning messages.

Since my computer hadn't been affected, I searched for a way to remove the intruder and stumbled upon this website. After following the step-by-step instructions on my husband's computer, I also ran the same programs on mine.

Thank you very much for posting this fix. Some of the other solutions listed on other sites were cumbersome and as savvy as I am, I ain't savvy enough to understand what they were trying to tell me. Your explanation was right on. Thank you again. And my husband thanks you. He thought his computer was headed for the junk pile..... now it runs better than before.

You're most welcome savvy.

A lot of time and effort went into that disinfection procedure.

You're not alone with that particular infection, as it's currently the most dominant infection that my computer repair shop has seen in the last couple of months. It's well crafted and walks all over the typical internet security programs that 99% of the population uses.
