Guest Marlene Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 Thanks Stanley for at least trying to see my meaning. I tried to download a game from Silvercreek Entertainment and it asks me to put in Windows XP because it needs a file from the disk.

Assuming you are referencing this post: http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windowsxp.general/browse_frm/thread/560ef07efc10dc22/cb53b517ab826dd0?lnk=st&q=author%3AMarlene&rnum=3#cb53b517ab826dd0 Please reply to the original posting in the future - things are easier to keep track of if you do not start a new posting until the old one is 'closed'. Can you be VERY specific? What I mean is - can you tell us exactly what game and what the message states word-for-word? -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

If you can borrow a Windows CD (with the same version as yours) from a friend that should work. Legally and unfortunately, you need to contact Microsoft to get a replacement CD. The CD itself shows no proof of having an authentic copy, but an invoice or holograph sticker should be good enough. If you have CAB files on your hard drive you may be able to point to that instead of a CD.
