folder shortcut error, windows removed folder when i opened it.

I cut and pasted file from captures folder to my external hdd, I updated windows, when i plugged my external hdd and open the folder i pasted, it showed the error of the folder being shortcut and windows removed the folder..... it tried different recovery softwares, checking hidden files..none of the options work, it wasa very important meeting..... any ideas?
