Guest news-text.blueyonder.co.uk Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 Is it possible to block google text ads? I've disallowed pagead2.googlesyndication.com on my router, in my browser and furthermore in my hosts file, yet the ads are STILL getting through. If anyone has any pointers as to how I could achieve this, I'd be most grateful indeed. Many thanks Colin

Guest mae Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 Re: blocking google text ads? Under Internet Options, I have google-analytics and googlesyndication in restricted zone and in privacy to always block. I don't use a Host file but I don't see any ads. -- mae "news-text.blueyonder.co.uk" <colin###@###j0o.com> wrote in message news:r1pAi.3180$c_1.2091@text.news.blueyonder.co.uk... | Is it possible to block google text ads? | | I've disallowed pagead2.googlesyndication.com on my router, in my browser | and furthermore in my hosts file, yet the ads are STILL getting through. | | If anyone has any pointers as to how I could achieve this, I'd be most | grateful indeed. | | Many thanks | | Colin

Its address is: http://www.google.com/analytics Wouldn't putting that in the restricted zone block all of Google? -- Bob http://www.kanyak.com
Guest Newbie Coder Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 Re: blocking google text ads? Colin, What I have done to block them is this: In Symatec Firewall | Ad Blocking | Configure | Advanced Add: pagead2.googlesyndication.com Block: / /pagead /pagead/ /pagead/show_ads.js In Global Settings: Untick & Block: Information about your browser Information about blocked sites Animated images Scripts Flash Animation User Settings (block) Use ad blocking settings Now: http://www.google-analytics.com Block: / /urchin.js In Global Settings: Untick & Block: Information about your browser Information about blocked sites Animated images Scripts Flash Animation User Settings (block) Use ad blocking settings -- Newbie Coder (It's just a name) "news-text.blueyonder.co.uk" <colin###@###j0o.com> wrote in message news:r1pAi.3180$c_1.2091@text.news.blueyonder.co.uk... > Is it possible to block google text ads? > > I've disallowed pagead2.googlesyndication.com on my router, in my browser > and furthermore in my hosts file, yet the ads are STILL getting through. > > If anyone has any pointers as to how I could achieve this, I'd be most > grateful indeed. > > Many thanks > > Colin > >
Guest mae Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 Re: blocking google text ads? I used these: *.google-analytics.com; *.googlesyndication .com Doesn't block google.com. Most ads don't bother me and I even like/want to see them. especially local sales:). -- mae "Opinicus" <gezgin@spamcop.net> wrote in message news:13d4v0dcgnbloc5@news.supernews.com... | "mae" <agrannie@notemail.msn.com> wrote in message | news:edaZRdH6HHA.3740@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... | > Under Internet Options, I have google-analytics and googlesyndication in | > restricted zone and in privacy to always block. | | *.googlesyndication.com is easy to put in the restricted zone but I'm | wondering about Google Analytics.
