I've got a Dell Desktop and a Gateway laptop in my shop right now that are both running Norton 360. The customer's complaints were, "Tons of pop ups and sooo slow.

The Dell had 16 infections. I'm halfway through a SAS scan on the Gateway and so far it has 5 infections, and that's without having yet run MB or ESET.

You go Norton!

Oh it's not that bad. It just can't take the constant pounding from the malware writers.

So Maynard, why do you think the Symantec coders request turning off system restore before the scan?

I am not sure why.

What if the malware infected a system file and you run the scan and it gets deleted, what will you do then ;)

Norton 360 - God help us all

I have seen some shocking reviews on it - strange for a symantec product :D, why do people still insist on buying what 'shops' say:-

Seth - I hope you will be 'advising' them on stronger software with a hammer in hand if need be lol

Agree...and I'm Agnostic!

Most electronic and computer stores in my city recommend Norton. Even more disturbing is most computer techs in my city do the same. It goes to show that there is a big difference between a computer repair tech and an internet security expert.

Indeed I do. I've even gone as far as contacting a few stores and explaining why Norton is so bad; all to no avail. Reason being, is the ill informed walk into these places and WANT Norton.

Unfortunately mate it's a catch 22 they are always advertising and that gets them customers - that and the fact they somehow manage to swing major deals with Dell and whoever.

Luckily ESET have started to advertise lots now in the UK and I am hoping that they overtake the likes of Mcafee and Norton, granted it will take time but when people see what Nod32 can do compared to Norton there is no comparison.

The latter statement is exactly Norton and Mcafee are so popular.

No comparison until NOD becomes more popular.
