My problem is that I'm unable to get any web pages via my Desktop.

I have a Laptop and a Desktop at home both with wireless connections, the Laptop is working fine so I have eliminated any issues with my router/provider.

My wireless link on the desktop looks connected fine with good strength.

I usually use IE7 which have uninstalled and tried IE6 which made no difference, both just 'hung' there and no error messages came back. I tried Safari and after a long wait got advised that the web page was unable to be displayed.

Everything was fine up until a few days back and I don't know of anything that I could have done to for this problem to occur although my son does spend time on the PC.

I have SP2 and I'm running on XP with AVG Anti-virus.

I have tried re-setting in the Internet Options but this made no difference, also removed the firewall but again no difference.

I'm a little stuck and would appreciate any help/advice that anybody can give in helping me getting this sorted out.

Thanks in advance, Tim

Check TCP/IP Settings:

  • Go to Control Panel and open Network Connections
  • Right-click on Wireless Network Connection and select Properties
  • Click on Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) and click on Properties
  • Make sure Obtain an IP address automatically is selected
  • Click on OK twice

If Maynard's suggestion doesn't pan out, then right click on the wireless connection and choose Status>Support. What does it show for the IP address?

Thanks for the replies, really appreciated.

'Obtain an IP address automatically' is set correctly.

I checked the IP address as advised by Seth and it is, 192.168.1.67

Please advise.

Thanks again, Tim

Again appreciate the help, I unfortuantly have to shoot off for tonight but will be back on line all day tomorrow so will be able to pick up then.

Have you tried Internet Explorer and FireFox.

Reset or Restore Advanced Settings in Internet Explorer 7:

  1. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.
  2. Click on the Advanced tab.
  3. In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Restore Advanced Settings or click Reset
  4. When Internet Explorer 7 finishes restoring the default settings, click Close, and then click OK two times.
  5. Close Internet Explorer 7. The changes take effect the next time that you open Internet Explorer 7.

Warning: Reset will restore all default settings for Internet Explorer!
