Hello,

I have a problem with my PC that started 2 days ago.

It starts normally, I start working on my PC normally, then all of a sudden it freezes completely, letting me no other choice than to reboot.

I have tried changing the rams, the VGA, removed all the network cards and sound card, changed the DVD-rom, but nothing changed. The problem remains and I started giving up.

I am running on Windows XP, and my PC configuration are the following:

MB Intel D850GB

RDRAM Gateway 2 x 256

CPU Intel 2.8

VGA ST Lab Mx440ST

Thank you for any suggestions.

Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help fpmnet.

The next probable causes will be overheating/hard drive errors/driver problems.

Run hard drive error correction by going to start>run, type in chkdsk /r and click ok (note the space between the K and the /R). At the next screen that appears, press Y and restart the computer to start the error correction.

If that doesn't work, keep tapping F8 as soon as you turn on the computer. From the boot menu that appears, use the arrow keys to choose Safe Mode, then press enter. Does the problem still occur in that mode?

Thank you Seth for your suggestions.

I had already performed the Disk Check and I performed it again from the Start/Run as you suggested. The problem still occurs.

I have also tried to boot in safe mode but nothing will do. My PC still freezes after a while.

Any other ideas?

Thank you.

Hi fpmnet and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help :)

I'm sure you have alread done this... but you have cleaned the inside of your pc and made sure the fans are working properly...correct? The most common reason a pc freezes is from overheating as Seth suggested.

Also... what are you doing with your pc when it freezes? Is there any common trend to what programs you are running when it freezes or does it seem to be more random?

Hi

did you install anything before this happened, or updated any drivers etc.....how long after boot up till it freezes......do you have up to date anti virus if so what version.

this maybe casued by something running on startup causing the hanging,

if you can get into safe mode...go to start>run type in msconfig then list what is ticked in the startup tab..or simply run hijack this and let us know the startup entries.
