Guest Candace Sparks Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 I have a laptop that has issues. There is a DVD-RW in the laptop and it has a red circle with a line through it over the top of it in My Computer. In the system, I see a DVD-RW, but in My computer it shows a CD-RW. Also, when I connect a USB external DVD-RW, there is a red circle with a line through it, also. If I run the setup for the software I am trying to install, I get an error that the administrator set policies to prevent the installation. I am really confused. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Candace Sparjs

Reinstall the software, then plug in the USB device. If the software / drivers were correctly installed the device should work fine. External devices should have their software (especially drivers) installed before the device is connected. If it still does not work, there may be a hardware problem with the drive or cable. Try the drive and cable on another PC if you can to rule this out. Mark
