DNS Problem

Hi

 

I have Two subnet using layer 3 switch to connect

I can ping the FQDN name example xxx.abc.com but there are two server

ping the short name xxx ,it can't ping . I need to map static WINS

then i can ping the short name .But in other subnet ping short name

and FQDN name also haven't problem .Is my DNS have problem or WINS why

haven't have update recored ?

Hi,

 

Try checking this:

 

Under local area network, TCP/IP properties, advanced TCP/IP settings.

Under the DNS tab, for the servers you cannot resolve by short name, make

sure you have the following options selected:

 

Append primary and connection specific DNS suffixes.

Append parent suffixes of the primary DNS suffix.
