Guest DL Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 Re: motherboard problem Both your Bios and winxp needs to support large hd's You would need to check as to whether your bios supports large hard disks. Winxp needs to be updated to sp1/sp2 before it will format a disk larger than 137gb If you enter the bios, what size of disk is shown? Several motherboard manufacturers publish "bios updates" on their web site. Just locate the Jetway web site and check for BIOS updates. Also, to set up the new hard drive, you must not use the "first" verison of XP (no service packs.) The "first" version of XP would not be able to create / format hard drive greater than the 128Gb size.
Guest DL Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 Re: motherboard problem You can of course use a 'first version' if you create a slipstreamed cd that includes the latest sp "smlunatick" <yveslec@gmail.com> wrote in message news:1188329926.414292.267790@k79g2000hse.googlegroups.com... > On Aug 28, 2:48 am, --Ivan-- <I...@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: >> Hi i got a Jetway motherboard which is over 18months old, i bought a new >> 320 >> gig hdd but my computer only recongnized 131gig i was told on here that i >> have to update my motherboard or something but i have no idea how to fix >> this >> problem.. i just want my whole 320gig hardrive to work >> >> any help is great thank you > > A lot of "older" motherboards require a BIOS update to support the > larger (greater than 128GB) hard drives.
