Guest DW Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 Whenever I access a folder on my desktop, run a program (most programs) or do almost anything, the Windows installer starts. A box pops up with the message "Windows Installer, starting to install". Nothing ever installs, and when I try to cancel, it takes quite a while for the installer to fully cancel. I searched this newsgroup for the term 'installer' and found a few helpful suggestions such as an Installer CleanUp Utility, which I tried but it did not help. I have to stress that, unlike other similar situations cited in this venue, in my case, simply clicking on a normal folder on my desktop will start the Installer, as will clicking on Recycle Bin, My Computer, etc. The issue is not limited to running programs. I am bewildered as to why even clicking on a folder will cause this to occur. This is a serious issue for me, as the problem exists on my associates computer, and his efficiency is impaired by having to cancel the installer numerous times each day and then wait a while for the cancellation to conclude. He is a highly paid person, so the cost to the company is also high. Thus, any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
