Guest thadmack511w Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 This just started out of the blue. Upon starting WinXP Pro this week i get an error message that says the PC can't find "C:\windows\system32\oqfaxdot.dll." Click "OK" or cancel and all desktop icons/shortcuts disappear. The only thing I can do at that point is CTRLALTDElete. It shows I am logged on but not much else. I've searched my XP operating system disc to no avail. Anybody know of a solution? Searching Microsoft knowledge has been fruitless -- thanks in avance
Guest certified2fix Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 Re: Startup error message IT sounds like the oqfaxdot.dll is part of a fax software application. But, if it's locking up the system during POST and not allowing you to boot to the desktop and you've done basic, random troubleshooting like making sure that nothing is in the cd-rom drive, etc., then have you tried taking that drive out and putting it into a different system to see if you can extract the data (back up) and re-install XP-Pro? -- certified2fix
