I have a Dell Inspiron 1300 (XP Home) using the internal Dell wireless card to connect. My wireless uses a Belkin ADSL2+ modem with wireless G plus MIMO router.

The laptop connects fine to the wireless but does require me to input the 26 digit code every time I use the laptop.

I am sure there is a way the laptop will authenticate automatically? Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.:)

Hello and Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help Ping. :)

I am no expert at Networking but I think that the setting can be changed on your Router's configuration page. To access the page, open a web browser such as Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer and type in 192.168.2.1 in the address bar. This will let you access the web-based management user interface of the Router using the Internet browser on a computer physically connected to the Router.

The Router ships with no password entered. In the login screen, leave the password blank and click the Submit button to log in.

From there, change the appropriate setting to disable the WEP code on your Router. A set of more detailed instructions might be provided in the manual so you might want to refer them if my instructions seem vague.

Hope that helps. Good Luck.

When you first input the code there should be 2 tick boxes asking:-

1 - if you want to save the network.

2 - if you want the password remembering

Thanks to everyone that replied.:)

I decided to change my router security setting to WPA and then re-configure each wireless laptop for the new security. It now works perfectly:D.

Thanks again.
