Hi I have the following problem with my Mesh Matrix Inspire PC; Sorry I'm not sure of the spec but I did get into the Bios earlier that said the processor is an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2000Mhz. I am currently using another pc. The PC is running XP but I don't know what version.

The PC was accidently powered off and since then the following sequence of events happens when I try and start it,

It bleeps as normal.

I get a black screen with the following options

1. Start in Safe Mode

2. Start in Safe Mode with Networking

3. Start in Safe Mode with Command Prompt

4. Start windows normally

I have tried all options that just bring me back to the same screen.

I did manage to get into a Mesh help screen that told me that XP was corrupt and I should use the recovery disk to restore factory settings.

What I would like to know is how can I restore things without lossing the info on my c drive. Lesson learnt I should back it up!! Prior to this happening I had been backing things up, I think I have saved my photos, but I don't want to lose my email adresses.

If I removed the hard drive and installed a new one with a new copy of XP could I then recover the info on the other disk at a later date?

Thanks for your help

Jon

Hi Jon.

Do you have an XP CD?

If so, the first step to try would be hard drive error correction, and if that doesn't work, a repair install of XP (which won't affect your personal data).

For the error correction, go into to the bios and make the cd the first boot device followed by the hard drive. Now insert the XP cd and when prompted, press "R" to enter the Recovery Console. If you're asked for an Administrator password, just press Enter. Now type in chkdsk /p (space between the K and the /) and press enter. When complete, type Exit and remove the cd as the computer starts.

If that doesn't work, then try the repair install:

1.Start your computer.2.Insert the Windows XP CD in your computer's CD drive or DVD drive.3.On the Welcome to Windows XP page, click Install Windows XP.4.On the Welcome to Windows Setup page, click Upgrade (Recommended) in the Installation Type box (if it is not already selected), and then click Next.5.On the License Agreement page, click I accept this agreement, and then click Next.6.On the Your Product Key page, type the 25-character product key in the Product key boxes, and then click Next.7.On the Get Updated Setup Files page, select the option that you want, and then click Next.8.Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to reinstall Windows XP.

Following the repair, immediately get all Window's critical updates.

Good luck.

Seth thanks for the response.

I have only a Recovery CD. I have tried running it on 3 occasions, and I have had the following error messages in this order. file \i386\halaacpi.dll could not be loaded the error code is 7. file setupdd.sys could not be loaded the error code is 4096. the file i2omp.sys is corrupted.

I then entered the recovery programme and ended up with the following message,

'The corruption on your windows partition is too extensive to perform the restore option you selected'. It then advises me to call Mesh the pc supplier!!

The PC is Mesh Matrix Inspire sorry I can't remember the exact spec but the processor is a AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2000Mhz. Unfortunately I can't see any info on it. I was running XP home edition.

Thanks Jon
