Display options

I've got a user who was my last user using windows 2000 SP4. She finally let

me upgrade her to Windows XP. This user has the most unique desktop settings

I've ever seen she likes everything VERY LARGE.

Anyways I'm trying to mimic her display settings in XP SP2 to be just like

the settings in her previous W2K machine and I'm falling short.

I've narrowed down to 1 thing, her theme. Her W2K theme was windows classic

(extra large). That's not an available scheme in XP. In the display

settings there's fewer choices, but the choice to find more themes on line

only gets me to the good ole "We're sorry we are unable to service your

request" and searching for Schemes, Desktop Themes, or Desktop display isn't

getting me anywhere. So again something I thought was going to be easy .....

Then I thought I could just copy the Her theme from her W2K machine and put

it in her windows\resources directory on her new machine, but live somewhere

else in the W2K machine and it's not apparent where.

I'm pretty sure this is something I can download, just not sure what

keywords to use to get there. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Windows Classic extra large is available on my machine. It could be a

Windows component you need to install through Add\Remove programs.

In any case you can set the size of the font through display properties

appearance tab > advanced button > icon, or whatever.

you can also set the font sizes through display properties appearance tab >

settings tab >advanced button > general tab DPI settings.

You might need to set these through an administrator account.

Re: Display options

Yeah I've tried all of that, but the user is still not satisfied. I will try

via add/remove windows components.

I'm amazed I haven't been able to accomplish the same settings with both

OSs.

Re: Display options

This problem is still an issue, I have STILL been unable to accomplish the

same settings in XP for this user. I tried installing the Windows Classic

Extra large theme and it just didn't seem to be a valid option anywhere I

looked.

The user is now requesting for her old windows 2000 machine back, which

isn't something I'm going to be able to support for too long. I've GOT to

find a solution.

Can anyone else come up with any other solutions?

Well if the desktop needs to be THAT big, then how about suggesting an eye

test and some glasses? BTW, employees have usually to accept what the

company gives them.....

Re: Display options

I thought about suggesting that, but that might offend her.

Have you lowered the display resolution? What have you done so far?

This is copied from the beginning of this thread. This is what I've tried so

far:

Re: Display options

It would seem that this problem should be solvable, but I'm certainly not

getting any answers on this thread. I think I'll repost in another forum to

see if I get anything more helpful. I do NOT want to have any more older OSs

because W2K isn't supported anymore and it's only a matter of time before we

get hit with something nasty where I need a hotfix that they won't make a

patch for for W2K.

Re: Display options

Right-click on Desktop and Properties>Themes>Windows Classic

Then on Appearance Tab....................

You should have Windows and Buttons dialog box where you can select "Windows

Classic"

Also "Color Scheme" dialog box to select from.

And "Font Size" which includes Normal, Extra Large and Large

Gordon, not everyone has sharp eyesight, and glasses are not always the

remedy (Oh god I wish things were that simple). I think Microsoft

should find more simple ways to enlarge everything on the screen (icons,

fonts, message boxes etc.) but apparently that is too much to ask.

There is a somewhat similar thread

Simply reducing the resolution does exactly that. It enlarges

everything, period.

No, but as this is an employee, then that factor should be eliminated first,

on health and safety grounds. The employee may not realise that they need

glasses, or may be just too vain. (It does happen), and anyway, if I was the

employer I would want to make sure that there would be no comeback for

defective eyesight caused by too much monitor work...
