I am wondering if anyone may be able to shed some light on this problem I have been having as it has completely stumped me.

Recently I was using my PC and it froze up on me and I had to hard reset (holding in power button). Since this has been done I get no display on my monitor at all.

I am fortunate to have a secondary PC so I have gone thorugh all of the tests that I can think of and every component works on the secondary PC but when I replace them into the original PC i still have the same problem.

So far I have:

Replaced the mobo with a brand new one

Tested all Ram modules

Tested Video Cards

Tested Hard Drive

Tested Floppy Drive

Changed PSU

Tested Monitor and Cables

All of these individual components came back as working fine on the secondary PC but will not display anything at all on the original PC.

Any suggestions will be welcomed as this is driving me insane now

Thanks in advance

So are you now running the new MOBO with all the other components?

have you reset the MOBO yet? - pop the CMOS battery out for around 30 seconds and put it back in.

Are there no beeps at all when the PC is booted?

and welcome to FPCH :-)

I'm not sure what you mean by "tested" the video card, but if you haven't already, then actually "replace' the video card. Also, if you have onboard graphics, then definitely try that as well, as the bios may be farkled and not recognizing the separate video card. But try Dalo's suggestion first:)

Thanks for that guys :)

I have already tried removing and replacing the battery, and no, there are no beeps when I restart the PC.

Having two PC's I have tried the graphics card form my old PC which didn't work, but my current graphics card works fine on the old PC.

The new mother board doesn't have any on board graphics so I am trying to restart from the graphics card, however the previous motherboard did have on board graphics and I still had the same problem :S

Right - you have listed that you have changed and tested all the components that can be causing this, it can only be one of the items that you chose, or that they are not plugged in properly -

did you change anything other than having to hard reboot the PC?

If the fan spins and you hear rhe hard drive, try another monitor.

Also try firing up the mobo outside of the box.

Both the fans on the PSU and the CPU spin and everything seems to be firing up as it should. By testing the graphics card I mean I have replaced it with 2 spare ones that are definitely working and I still get nothing.

Everything is plugged in and I have checked all of the cabling as well as tried a different monitor. I doubled checked and made sure all of the components are inserted correctly and all of the cabling is firmly secured in as well. As I say all components that I have in this system work on the 2nd PC but they dont want to work in the new one.

The components I have installed are:

Abit AN52V motherboard

ATI Radeon HD 3400 videocard

AMD dual core processor

350 Watt ATX PSU

80GB Hard Drive

I am very appreciative of all of the suggestions but nothing seems to work for me so far

I am going to triple check the cabling to make sure that nothing is in the wrong place but I have gone over it quite a few times now to no avail :(

Well if all those components work in a different case, then something must be shorting out when in the other case.

Have you checked that you have put the connectors for the Case to the MOBO in the right ways - its easy to overlook and can cause serious problems.

what speed memory are you trying to run?

I have double checked the cabling from the Front Panel to the Mobo and it does all seem to be connected up correctly.

I am using four Kingston 2GB PC2 6400 Ram sticks in this machine and I was running Windows XP. The only software changes made to the machine before the problem was the installation of Windows XP service Pack 3 which was auto installed a few days before the freeze. I thought it might have been this at first but it had been installed a few days before the problem occurred and I had no signs of any problems in the few days it was installed.

I can try to get my hands on an alternative casing but I cant see what would be causing a problem with the casing as there are very few connections from the case to the mobo in any case.

I did notice that the connectors on the Mobo had both 20 and 24 pin connectors and also 8 pin and 4 pin connectors for the power but it does state that you can use either and everything does seem to power up correctly.

ok have you tried booting the system with just one of the sticks in?

some MOBO's especially budget ones really struggle with 2GB sticks and the board may need a BIOS update before it even recognises the RAM.

Oops my mistake they are only 1GB sticks I will have a go and try with just one in at a time. Here is fingers crossed.

Are the RAM sticks new?

if you are using 4GB of RAM then you will HAVE to alter the timings and the Volatage manually in the BIOS when the PC is working but we will come to that later ;)
