Guest toby lam Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 I have Windows Server NT 4 PDC and I want to setup another Windows Server 2003 and run AD to replace my existing NT 4 domain. How do I do it and migrate the username and login script from my NT 4 server to the new server running Windows 2003. Thanks in advance
Guest Meinolf Weber Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 Re: Side by side upgrade fron NT 4 to Windows Server 2003 AD Hello toby, You can only run AD parallel if you migrate to another domain name. For this you can use AMDT 3: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=6f86937b-533a-466d-a8e8-aff85ad3d212&displaylang=en If you will keep the same domain name, you have to do an inplace upgrade ont he old NT4 PDC. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/upgrading/nt4/default.mspx Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. > I have Windows Server NT 4 PDC and I want to setup another Windows > Server 2003 and run AD to replace my existing NT 4 domain. Guest tobyone Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 Re: Side by side upgrade fron NT 4 to Windows Server 2003 AD Thanks Meinolf, Can the inplace upgrade be done on the NT4 BDC instead of the PDC? Guest Meinolf Weber Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 Re: Side by side upgrade fron NT 4 to Windows Server 2003 AD Hello tobyone, No, but before starting the upgrade, replicate between pdc and bdc then you can disconnect the PDC from the domain and if something goes wrong just make the bdc to pdc and the old domain is still running.
