Guest AMD Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 I've got a 300gb ata133 drive as master. I've got several other drives and have windows installed on one. Well, the OS only sees 127gb and it's a 300gb drive. It was working fine before, but now not all is seen. Partition magic 805 says bad on the drive for bad partition info or something. format does not work and pmagic cannot format or create a partition on it or anything. dos format does not work nor does right clicking on the drive and saying format. the disk management tool also shows it as the 300gb, but it won't let me format it or anything. no messages that help at all as unable to format is all that happens.

Please do not multi-post, as it makes it more difficult for you as well as those who might assist. Please check your identical post in the other group(s) you have put it in for more information/things to try. -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

Nonsense. I am sorry you misunderstood me. I do not care how many groups you post in - but you should cross-post instead of multi-posting. It's better for you and better for those that might assist you. Why - because doing what you have done (posting the same message - some with different subject lines - but with identical (or nearly identical) message bodies) wastes your time as well as those who might be able to assist you. They see your post in each newsgroup you post it in that they frequent as a new/unread post. They can either choose to answer each one individually or ignore it altogether. Many will choose the latter and those people are likely the ones who might have a useful answer/suggestion - because they are in that situation because they frequent these newsgroups and answer questions on a regular basis - for free, just to be helpful to someone in need. However - if you cross-post, your message will get in as many newsgroups as you want and everyone who responds properly will also respond in those same newsgroups. When they visit the other newsgroups - the message will appear read/answered so they do not see it as a repeat post. Anyone coming back later to read what solution you received will see one continuous conversation spanning several groups instead of two or more broken partial conversations. This goes for you too - if you cross-post - you check in one place and given that everyone responded to your message leaving the newsgroups 'as they were' - you only have to check in one place. However - don't take my word for it - others have come up with similar reasoning: - http://www.cs.tut.fi/~jkorpela/usenet/xpost.html - http://oakroadsystems.com/genl/unice.htm#xpost - http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crossposting So again - I am sorry you have taken offense to my friendly suggestion and even answering you in one of your posts with queries that may lead to your final solution... however - to each their own. -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

I guess I don't respond "properly". I have my Usenet client set to post ONLY to the group I'm reading. I have never been a big fan of cross posting and I have never (that I'm aware of) replied to more than the group in which I saw the original post. In the case of this post, I haven't seen the post in any other group, so your reply to him to look at the other group/s does me no good. I would suggest that if you aren't willing to answer his question in a group, then say nothing at all to the group. JMHO. -- Zilbandy

Then you might understand why you should be a fan of crossposting and help correct the multiposting issue! When you understand, you will realize your suggestion is merely a opinion and is counterproductive as far as correcting the real issue.

If you would like tro see the other posts - it is very simple to do - just use Google Groups... (If you help around here a lot - or even if you are just looking to see if a question you have asked might have already been asked/answered before - it is an invaluable tool...) However - in reasearching - just like google - it is a fantastic tool. Makes it much easier to see if anyone asked a question similar to the one you are about to ask, similar to the one you are about to answer or just finding an old post of yours (or pointing someone to an old post of their own) very easy - considering how much it archives. -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

I understand the differences, too. I PERSONALLY choose NOT to crosspost or multipost. I'll send a message to a group and if I don't hear something in a couple of days, or if I can't find the solution using a search engine, then I will 'multipost' a single message to a different group.
