Guest Heirloom Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Re: Updates for AdAware and Spybot That's good to know, Alias. Since I don't 'comprende', I had to resort to the defs I knew, <g>. Guest Heirloom Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Re: Updates for AdAware and Spybot Alias, I did check out Comodo, it compares closely with the free and paid version of ZA. As I am using the ZAPro and am happy with it, I will simply keep the Comodo in mind for future use. May put it on the wife's laptop.....after I go through the effort of removing all the crappy 'trialware' that it is currently infesting it, to include AOL and NIS!! (that's going to be fun!) Heirloom, old and buyers should have the option of having trialware "Alias" <iamalias@shoesgmail.com.> wrote in message news:OuH0Gru6HHA.4712@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > Heirloom wrote: >> ZAPro lets you know what is trying to "phone home." Guest Eric Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Re: Updates for AdAware and Spybot Computers don't come with trialware if you buy the OS seperately. If you buy it installed, the trialware brings the price down some. The software makers pay the hardware vendors to stick their ads on there. I got a new IBM machine that came with a TON of trialware and junk icons on the desktop. Did it at least come with disks? The most annoying trend these days is package machines that don't come with disks for the OS, where they give you an option to create "restore" disks which will reinstall your OS for you (including trialware) and can require as much as 13 blank CDs. Guest Heather Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Re: Updates for AdAware and Spybot Thanks Tom....but I am using XP Home. I figure I am safe for a while with my *dead as a doornail* EZ Trust monitoring stuff. May go for Avast, and then again.....may go for AVG. For now, anyway. Best from a now cooler Ontari-ari-ari-oh!! Don't like high 80's temps. They are like one massive hot flash!! Guest Heirloom Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Re: Updates for AdAware and Spybot Your preaching to the choir, Eric. Yep, I know about pre-packaged machines coming with all the crap ware.....I just think that when paying for something, you should get the choice of what goes on. And, no, it did not come with the OS discs.... it didn't even come with recovery discs! One has to make their own. I put everything on DVD's and it only took 1.5 or so. I will be making a backup using Acronis to a 250G USB 2.0 external, 7200rpm HD. Incremental backups will be made until everything is cooking and a final configuration is setup....well, close to final. This drive will be kept off location until needed and is big enough to backup the wife's laptop and my desktop (compressed).
