Hi there,

Everything was hunky Dory Mesh PC windows Vista home premium, watching DVDs with windows media player 11 playing dvd games OK not the fastest in the world but ok then I move the PC from one side of the room to the other and now I put a dvd in the drive and the PC restarts.

If you then check the drive with the disc in it treats it and blank " drag files to add to disk" I thought it might be the dvd player and tried a new one same problem I have updated the drivers for the drive, checked the Hardware Manager but that says there is no problem with the device.

To be honest I am getting a little irate with it now so any help would be more beneficial than a 12lb lump hammer.

Cheers Malki

Hello Malki. That is a very peculiar problem you state there. Does the computer restart only after you insert a DVD? What happens when you just close the CD tray without inserting anything? Also, do you experience the problem when you put in a CD instead of a DVD?

I know these are a lot of questions but we need the information so that we can determine the cause of the problem. By the way, have you checked that the cables at the back of the computer are tight? Loose connections might cause the problem you are experiencing.

Is auto-play turned on? It usually is by default. If so what program is trying to fire up when a DVD is loaded? Sounds like whatever program that is may be the problem. Find out which one is set to handle DVDs and run it manually, without a DVD in the tray and see what happens. May be something as simple as reinstalling the right DVD program. If you want to dig deeper you can turn auto-play off and see what happens. Personally I hate automatic anything.

Try what has been suggested - other than that I would say that the firmware is corrupted

I have tried various dvd programmes from windows media player, media centre, VLC cyberlink Dvd I have updated drivers and firmware The only thing I can think of is a widows update has thrown everything out, but i can't get at it as uninstall updates won't go back beyond 5 days. really am getting fed up with the whole thing.

you could try a restore point from before the 'problem' started occuring - if it is just DVD's I have never seen or heard of that problem before - if it is ahutting the PC down then there is something seriously wrong - you could try another DVD-RW if you have one.

Other than that it could be a windows issue, but I had a look on the net and found nothing, but will have a proper search later for you.
