Guest danieldaniel Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 I reinstalled XP after reformatting my hard drive and now the internet does not work on my computer. My wireless card worked for about three hours, but the ethernet card has never worked since the reinstall. My wireless card shows that I am connected to the network and it has a strong signal. However, when I open IE, the page comes up and says that it cannot be displayed. In the bar at the bottom, it shows to be detecting proxy settings, but then the page comes up blank. Also, since I reinstalled XP, my computer does not recognize any speakers on my laptop. The computer makes a loud beep anytime a warning box pops up rather than making a chime sound through the speakers. Is it possible that some drivers are missing? I am not very technically advanced, but I can find my way around the computer fairly well. I just don't always understand some of the jargon that is used.

First of all, because it is a clean install you need to install all the drivers for your Hardware from the Laptop/desktop manufacturer or if you given a CD software for the Motherboard use this to install the right drivers for your system or pay a visit sooner after you connect to the internet. Now, do you use any Encryption method to secure your wireless, try to make sure you are Entering the correct Key on this machine as the one been set on the Router. Open a run command and type in: ipconfig /flushdns click [OK] ipconfig /renew click [OK] netsh winsock reset click [OK] Reboot your machine and see if the connection will hold. Or try this winsock fixer from here (although the netsh command should correct the winsock but not always) : http://www.nasstec.co.uk/tools.html Windows XP Support Patch for Wi-Fi Protected Access http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=009d8425-ce2b-47a4-abec-274845dc9e91&displaylang=en Set up a wireless network http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/setup/wireless.mspx Wireless by Barb Bowman: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/security/expert/bowman_wirelesssecurity.mspx Charlie Russel,Using a Wireless Laptop at Work and at Home http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/tabletpc/expert/russell_tabletlaptop.mspx HTH. nass ------ http://www.nasstec.co.uk
