Who is your internet service provider?

Usually they will send you software that will allow you to connect to the internet via them, you can then add a router as a hardware firewall.

virgin media.

My internet is working on my computer fine throught the router, but not on the laptop. it is connected to the router but will not reach the internet.

Are you connecting the main PC via Ethernet or wireless?

can you try the laptop with an Ethernet cable straight into the router - if it works then that means the settings in the router home page or on the laptop need setting up.

how will i know if it works i will try it put i dont think it will work. someone told me i need to configurate my router to my laptop. is that right?

If you plug the laptop into the router via an Ethernet cable then NO configuration is needed it should just work.

as your main one is plugged in and works the laptop should do the same - this would then indicate that the settings either in the router or the laptop need configuring.

we need to know if the laptop connects via the ethernet first.

Take the ethernet cable from the back of the PC and plug in the laptop.

is the network secured by a WEP/WPA key - does it ask for a password when you try and access the network?
