Wireless Connection Problem!!

Hiya i need some help...

 

 

Basically i have a laptop with vista on and up until last week had wirless internet working perfectly through Orange Livebox then my mate updated the software and now it doesnt work!!.

 

The weird thing is though his two other computers now all work but mine just refuses to connect.

 

When you look for Networks it can see the box is there..I have put it in pairing mode while i connect and checked and double checked the WEP key and turned off all security but it tries to connect then just says Windows cannot connect to the box..it soo frustrating because it won't tell me why even when I do the repair function it just says try to connect again.

 

Anyone got any ideas??

p.s my mate upgraded the box with new software to make it quicker

 

as i said his pc and laptop do work but mine and another housemate refuses to work and we are both vista so i think it MUST be a vista problem

The keys to access the network are case sensitive - other than that what router is it - Netgear by chance?

yeah have tripled checked the key have even changed it...and the router is orange livebox

get your friend to log into the router home page and check all is ok in there.

if you dont know how to do this then post back.

some routers have options for limiting access to the router by MAC address

Ok will do what is the MAC adress out of interest and could it be coincidence that two comps with vista on are having the same problem?

a MAC address is a unique bunch of numbers for a specific network device -

to find a MAC address open a command window (cmd.exe) and type ipconfig/all scroll to the top and there will be MAC addresses next to the network devices - use the wireless one.

Thanks for that but I have done all that its the bit after I ve put in the WEP key it says connecting then doesnt really do anything

Did you get your friend to check the setting in the router itself

yep its all fine..someone suggested resetting the wirless adapter on my laptop so may try that

you can try that - but a more common issue is to check windows update for 'additional updates'

if it connects via the ethernet cable direct to the router then the laptop settings are out - if it doesnt connect then its the router settings.
