Is it that way for *all users* and in safe mode?

Did you prepare for SP2 before installing it?

(Upgrade hardware drivers from each manufacturer, uninstall unused software,

update software you do utilize, scan for adware/spyware with several

different applications, do a full virus/trojan scan with an updated

antivirus application, CHKDSK and defragment your hard disk drive, back up

your important files/favorites/documents/emails/contacts...)

If you boot in safe mode - can you uninstall SP2 or roll back using System

Restore?

Try entering your account in Safe Mode, and also create another account and

try logging into that in regular mode. It's possible that your account has

been corrupted, and that you will need to migrate the data to a new one.

How do I get to Safe Mode whenb there is nothing on my screen? There is

absolutely nothing on my screen except the wallpaper.

When you boot up your PC, press the F8 key repeatedly until you get the

screen that gives you the option of entering Safe Mode.

Re: SP2

--Hi,

On the blank desktop screen

check if we can open the task manager

use ctrl+alt+del keys together to open the task manager

on the task manager click on new task

in the create new task box

type explorer.exe

click ok and check if it makes any difference

if still we are on the blank desktop then

as other folks suggested try in safe mode

if works fine in safe mode then can create a new

userprofile

if issue still persits then need to perform system restore

Method 1: for system restore

while booting in to safe mode we will get aprompt to click

yes to proceed or click on no to perform system restore

pick no and perform system restore (sp2 would be uninstalled)

if cudnt access system restore then follow method2

Method 2: for system restore

open task manager

use ctrl+alt+del keys together to open the task manager

on the task manager click on new task

in the create new task box

type cmd.exe adn click ok

now on the black screen (CommandPrompt) type cd/ hit enter

now type cd windows/system32/restore and hit enter

now type rstrui.exe and hit enter

you will get system restore wizard

perform system restore

if issue persists then we need to go for repairing windows xp

let me know the status after you try these things ..

Take care ..

I got the safe mode version of my desktop to come up. What do I do now. My

Norton doesn't seem to be active, so I don't want to get on the internet on

that computer. I was able to open My Computer & Control Panel.

Re: SP2

It's working beautifully! SP2 is gone and everything is working fine.

THANK YOU!!!Now, I have a problem on this computer. IE keeps shutting down

when I go to some websites on the internet. The box comes up and says IE has

experienced a problem and needs to shut down... Here is the data I got from

the screen:

APPNAME IEEXPLORE.EXE

APPVER 7.0.5730.11

MODNAME NPPW.dll

MODVER 2006.1.0.54

OFFSET 000390f1

Sometimes it will let me stay on for a while and other times it will shut

me right down. I had IE6 and thought if I went to IE7 it would stop, but

it's still doing the same thing in IE7. Any ideas on what to try next? Also

it's saying my Windows Security Center is turned off. I don't know how that

happened or how to turn it back on. Thanks.

This computer has SP2. I had no problem putting it on my Gateway. This is

the computer that is having the IE problem, not the Dell.

| It's working beautifully! SP2 is gone and everything is working fine.

| THANK YOU!!!Now, I have a problem on this computer. IE keeps shutting down

| when I go to some websites on the internet. The box comes up and says IE

has

| experienced a problem and needs to shut down... Here is the data I got from

| the screen:

| APPNAME IEEXPLORE.EXE

| APPVER 7.0.5730.11

| MODNAME NPPW.dll

| MODVER 2006.1.0.54

| OFFSET 000390f1

| Sometimes it will let me stay on for a while and other times it will shut

| me right down. I had IE6 and thought if I went to IE7 it would stop, but

| it's still doing the same thing in IE7. Any ideas on what to try next?

Also

| it's saying my Windows Security Center is turned off. I don't know how that

| happened or how to turn it back on. Thanks.
