Guest Phisherman Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 How can a custom bootable DVD be made in the event of a hard drive crash? I'd think this would be an important disc to have on hand. (Did I miss something in XP to do this?)

Guest peter Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Re: Create a bootable DVD for repair/recovery If you are looking for a way to make an exact copy of your HD and then boot up and restore that copy might I suggest an Imaging Program with the capability to make a bootable startup disk...I use Acronis True Image v10.0 for that purpose. It allows you to image your HD onto another HD or even a DVD or 2 if needed...it allows you to make an Emergency Startup disk.If the OS goes down,or if you install a new HD to replace the broken one by means of the Emergency Disk you can restore that Image back onto the HD and be up and running in no time. Do a google for Acronis True Image and you can read up on it and decide if that is what you had in mind. peter "Phisherman" <noone@nobody.com> wrote in message news:gmddd3pmo4gr2bnv47507iml4v615kk02i@4ax.com... > How can a custom bootable DVD be made in the event of a hard drive > crash? Guest JCO Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Re: Create a bootable DVD for repair/recovery I agree with Peter! You can also partition your current HD, then image everything to that partition. Then use Acronis True Image to create Secure Zone on the new partition. The Secure Zone is a protected area that allows the Image to be updated as you see fit... so that it will always represent your current computer system. Then if something gets corrupted on the C-Drive, you can boot up using F9 (I think) which will allow you to restore your pc to the Image. This is how many new computers (especially laptops) from the store are set up. The only disadvantage of this method is that your using the same drive to store the image. So if the entire HD is bad.... Your out of luck. However, you can use a second HD just for the purpose of storing backups (as Peter mentioned). You can use the Secure Zone or you can simply create an image to be stored on a second drive. Acronis will let you create a bootable CD that gives you the power to browse to any HD (even on a network) or CD/DVD to restore your system from an Image. Hope this helps "Phisherman" <noone@nobody.com> wrote in message news:gmddd3pmo4gr2bnv47507iml4v615kk02i@4ax.com... > How can a custom bootable DVD be made in the event of a hard drive > crash? Guest Unknown Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Re: Create a bootable DVD for repair/recovery Depends on your PC manufacturer. Do they provide one or give you the means to create one?.
