Guest WetBehindEars Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 I need to setup a software mirrored RAID. Can I do it while during business hours or should I wait until after hours? What is the best practice?
Guest glenn Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Re: Software mirror RAID If you talking about using w2k or w2k3 you will have to do this out of hours. You need to make both disks dynamic and when you do this the server will need 2 reboots. Guest Coraleigh Miller Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Re: Software mirror RAID Hi WetBehindEars, If this is a production server and you have a little money in the budget you may want to consider a hardware RAID solution. Generally they are far more dependable, do not put extra load on your cpu and better in disaster recovery senarios. http://www.adaptec.com/NR/rdonlyres/14B2FD84-F7A0-4AC5-A07A-214123EA3DD6/0/4423_SW_HWRAID_10.pdf My opinion at any rate. :-) Coraleigh Miller "WetBehindEars" <WetBehindEars@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:80CA7478-7CEB-48F5-BA95-086D45B0C232@microsoft.com... >I need to setup a software mirrored RAID. Guest WetBehindEars Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Re: Software mirror RAID It is a production server, but it is already built out and in use. It has a 750g drive in it and I just purchased another to do software RAID. How long will it take to mirror itself with a 750 gig drive? Guest Coraleigh Miller Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 Re: Software mirror RAID It could take approx 8 hours..give or take. I would start this on a Friday night or Saturday to give yourself ample time as well as to troubleshoot any issues.
