roaming profile difficulties

We have a small network with about a dozen computers. I have been updating

the users to roaming profiles and have created a share on the server with all

the users in it with the appropriate permissions. Most of the computers

converted to roaming profiles with no problems. All I had to do was log off

and back on to enable the roaming profile button. When I logged off again,

the user's profile was saved to the server.

On two of the older computers, however, the roaming profile option is still

greyed out after multiple shut downs. I have checked the group policy on

these computers (gpedit.msc) and nothing is configured, so there is nothing

blocking the roaming profiles from loading, but I don't even get to that

point. I can't get them to enable so I can even save them.

Both of these computers are running XP SP2, but I'm beginning to suspect

that they may need another update of some sort. Can anyone help?

RE: roaming profile difficulties

Hello,

please try to copy the existing profiles as local Administrator to the

server share.

Rename the local profiles.

Logon the user, wether to check if they get the roaming profile.

If yes, you can delete the local renamed profiles.

If not, logon as user and check if you are able to connect to and write to

the profile share. Now try to make Folders and files and delete them.

If you are able to, please check the user profile settings in AD.

If not, please check secutity rights for the profile share and NTFS security

of the server file system.

Good luck
