Print Driver Install Issues

Recommended Posts

Trying to install HP Color LaserJet CP3505 on a clustered print server -

Windows 2003 SP1 (using both the print server wizard and/or printui.dll). I

am getting the error "Unable to install HP Color LaserJet CP3505, Windows

2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003, x86 driver. Access is denied.

I am a domain admin, have GPO rights to load device drivers. I have checked

the permissions on the registry key

HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\control\print\environments (I have rights). I

have run regmon and filemon and nothing is jumping out at me (no access

denied). I have two servers in the cluster and it is happening to both of

them. Event log shows no errors as well. Furthermore, if I try and

re-install another driver I am getting access denied as well (HP driver).

Anyone else experience this or have other ideas on what I can look at to see

why I cannot install this driver?

Re: Print Driver Install Issues

Hello,

I think i already got that with an hp driver.

It happens if it start copying files but then stopped. Some files are

remaining with read-only access.

I used processmon (filemon + regmon in one) to track files. You should

delete them or remove the read-only attributes

Re: Print Driver Install Issues

That was the fix - had a few files in the ...\printdrivers\w32x86 directory

that were ready only. I ended up downloading ProcessMonitor to find out

which ones and removed the attribute.

Many thanks for helping me out!
