Big problem - please help

I got Vista Ultimate version on my AMD 3200+, 4 GB RAM.

My harddisk is Seagate 320 GB SATA - 16 MB RAM.

Yesterday my machine was running fine, then I shut it down.

Removed my cordless PS2 keyboard and mouse, plugin my newly bought MS 2000

keyboard desktop into USB. Turn on the machine, only into the BIOS and got

the error message on the screen:

Windows Boot Manager

"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the

cause. To fix the problem:

1) Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer

2) Choose your language settings, and then click "Next"

3) Click "Repair your computer"

If you do not have the disc, contact your system administrator or cimputer

manufacturer for assistance.

File:\Boot\BCD

Status: 0xc000000f

Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration

data"

This is the additional information of my PC, my seagate harddisk from time

to time pops up to me that I need to back up my harddisk as my harddisk has

problem. And I am not sure does it also related to my RAM. Or just

coincidence.

Also I tried to use another harddisk in which XP was installed and has no

problem in booting up my PC. So it only happened in my Vista harddisk, I

have no clue it relates to Vista OS or my harddisk or my RAM.

Doesn't the message mean that the disk is going bad? Why does the RAM enter

into

your situation?

The fact that you system will boot satisfactorily from the other disk

certainly does indicate

a failing disk.

Almost anything can be the result of a bad sector at a particular sensitive

spot.

It is time for you to replace the disk.

So WHY are you posting to a Windows XP group?

Did you somehow slip through the crack in the intelligence test that

is supposed to determine if you've got a freakin' clue?

It sounds like the SMART technology in the hard drive is enabled, and

has been giving you sufficient warning of impending doom. That's its

purpose - to warn you when the drive is showing signs of failure (read

or write errors for example) in order to give you sufficient time to

replace it.

If it hasn't self-destructed completely you still might be able to

clone it over to the replacement drive using the software that comes

with the retail versions of most drives. You can also download that

software from most vendor's sites. For example, WD calls their software

"Data Lifeguard Tools". You must use the software that's intended for

the brand of replacement you select.

It's always best to use a standard ps/2 keyboard and mouse on ANY MS OS.
