Guest Wolfeymole Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 Hi Paula Welcome to FPCH Have a read of this from the good old boys at Microsoft. Service does not start and displays "Error 1058" Quote
paula711 Posted September 6, 2008 Author Posted September 6, 2008 i tried that and got an new error 1068: the dependancy service or group failed to start Thats a new one. Any suggestions ? Paula Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 What is the make and exact model number of the printer paula? Quote
paula711 Posted September 6, 2008 Author Posted September 6, 2008 HP Photosmart 8150 I went to HP and downloaded the software and the error message 1058 popped up. i have been in the systems and trying to start the printer spooler. read was it depended on and tried to start that up (lexbce server) and got an error message from that as well. So then I tried to see what that was dependant on and found that the RPC needed to be started in which i did get it to. so where i am now is the printer spooler will not start as well as the lexbce and i do see where the dependancy is. but being unfamiliar does not help. Hope all this info can help. Paula Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 You had a Lexmark printer at some stage yes? Completely uninstall any instances of lexmark from your system including going through a search for any vestiges of this old software. Quote
paula711 Posted September 6, 2008 Author Posted September 6, 2008 you are right. and i did remove all the lexmark stuff last week. i am not sure if anything else lingers around i did a search and nothing came up. now what should i do? Paula Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 Just removing a program from Add/Remove does not mean that it is totally gone Paula. Run a Search for any instances of the word lex, which to me can only be associated and delete those. Quote
paula711 Posted September 6, 2008 Author Posted September 6, 2008 it came up with 86 files some are under windows, compdata and program files. it is safe to assume i need to delete all of them? it does not look like anything i used recently. Paula Quote
RandyL Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 I would rename them rather then delete them but only if you're sure they are related to lexmark. Just add old to the end of the name but before the file type extension. Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. Goku Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 Hello and Welcome to FPCH Paula. :) Please perform the following steps and see if they help or not. 1. Click Start. 2. Select Run.... 3. Type services.msc in the Open: box and click OK. 4. In the corresponding Window, you will be presented with a list of services as shown below. Search for a service titled Lexbces or something similar. http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/img/16333-1.gif 5. After you have located the service, right-click on it and select Properties. 6. In the Startup type: change the preference from Automatic to Disabled. Click Apply and then OK. 7. Next, search for a service titled Print Spooler. Right-click on the service and select Properties. 8. Click on the Recovery tab and configure the settings, so that they look similar as shown in the image below. http://digital.natinst.com/public.nsf/$CXIV/ATTACH-AEEE-7592SV/$FILE/services.JPG 9. Click Apply and then OK. 10. Reboot the computer. Try to install the printer now and see if you still experience the problem or not. Good Luck. :) -- Goku Quote
