Guest HonoredWriter Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Hello, I have this very strange problem. I recently re-installed Windows XP Pro and I was attempting to re-install the analog modem. I received a "blue screen" stating that there was an error " IRQ > or less than" and the next message stated that "AFD.sys was attempting to write to a ROM location" and I must reboot in the safe mode. I determined the culprit was the modem card driver (possibly a install over a previous install. I corrected that error and the system booted correctly with all the bells less one whistle: I received an error message whenever I tried to send a FAX, "TAPI error of unknown cause" or words to that effect. I replaced the modem card with a new PCI modem card and reinstalled the driver. Same "TAPI..." error message whenever I tried to send a FAX or initialize the modem. Using the Windows trobleshooter, I was informed that there was a disable communication port. I followed the instructs given in the troubleshooter to enable it , but could not find a port that was disable( COM1 = ACPI, COM2 = ?, COM3 = printer, COM4 = modem). Using the device manager I cannot find a fault with any of the devices installed, but yet the modem does not work. I can QUERY the modem and get a response, but modem does not work. I have purchased three modems. Can someone point me in the right direction for a possible solution to this problem? The FAX error message is "No line" -- HonoredWriter
