Guest DrGaryG Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 All of a sudden my printer has disappeared from my computer. I can't reinstall it. All I get is an error message: "Print spooler service is not running."

Guest DrGaryG Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Re: Print spool error This doesn't work. No matter what I do I still get the same error message and each time I go to services.msc the Print spooler is off. Guest Pegasus \(MVP\) Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Re: Print spool error Have a look at the Event Viewer (eventvwr.exe). If this happened all of a sudden then you can probably fix it by using System Restore to go back to a point well before the problem became apparent. Guest DrGaryG Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Re: Print spool error We have done a system restore to long before the problem appeared to no avail. Why can't I start Print Spool? It shows I have started it and when I relook it has stopped. Guest Pegasus \(MVP\) Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Re: Print spool error Right-click each event log in turn, then clear all events. If you cannot do this, reboot the machine in Safe Mode, then delete all files ending on .evt. They are located in c:\windows\system32\config. Now restart the Print Spooler, then check the Event Logger. Since you appear to have two serious problems, I'm beginning to wonder if you have been hit by some virus or malware. Go the services.msc and right click Print Spooler, select Properties, then select the Dependencies tab. The services listed there must also be enabled before Print Spooler will work. Good luck.
Guest jp Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 RE: Print spool error Here is how I fixed this problem. I got the answer from another post but this post closely matches my problem. HP L7680 all-in-one printer The solution is to delete the contents of the spooler folder. C, Windows, System32, Spool, Printers (the contents are hidden so you have to select to be able to view them) Go to that folder and delete the contents. Do not delete the folder. Then restart. This fixed my problem. Using WindowsXP. I have deleted all HP software. Then I installed the printer. It could not find a driver automatically so I had it browse the HP disk, then clicked cancel when it tried to install the huge HP bloatware. Just the driver installed and it works. I have no scanning to computer functionality. But I just use the scanner for standard faxing.
