Guest Jack Cannon Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 I have a client with three machines. Each machine is operating under Windows XP Home Edition. Each machine has all updates installed and would appear to be identical. However one machine has a strange reaction when attempting to create a new folder on the root directory of the C: drive. The folder is created okay with the default name of "New Folder". When an attempt is made to rename the folder an error message appears with the title of "Error Renaming File of Folder". The critical error icon appears on the message box. The text within the message box is: "Cannot rename New Folder: It is being used by another person of program." "Close any programs that might be using the file and try again." Although I cannot rename the New Folder. I can delete it. The only way I can create another folder with the proper name on the C: Drive is to create the folder in a subdirectory of the C: Drive and move it to the root directory. I have only attempted this using the Windows File Manager (My Computer). I have not attempted the same function using a DOS command. Any suggestions on what might be causing the problem would be appreciated. Jack Cannon
