Hi, I'm trying to sort out the audio on the computer, I'd like a set-up where the speakers are plugged into the back but if you plug headphones into the front they override the speakers.

The problem is that the computer has a unusual set-up, maybe it was common on older computers:confused:

Basically in order to get the ports on the front to work you have to plug in the audio cable that runs through the computer and out the back.

The computer has a sound card along with on board audio.

Is there an easy and not to expensive way to achieve what I'd like.

Hmmmmmmm,

you could just but some headphones that have a built in amp - mine were off play.com and they are medusa 5.1 surround ones - they are like £40-£50 though

its very difficult to adapt systems like that - and you cant even add another sound card :(

there is no way that I can think of that you could still use both the way you require.

Thanks, I'll just make do with scrambling behind the computer when I need to, I know the set-up is common on most PCs nowadays and thought there was possibly a simple small switching device I could use along with the sound card, but obviously not, nevermind.

you could buy an extension type lead for the audio to save you having to go behind the pc all the time and just route it to a more accessible location - there may be something that someone else knows of but I know of no hardware that would allow you to switch the 2, when needed.
